Laurel Snow area visit-17935

We met Mable, this gorgeous Collie at the Laurel Snow area.

She just came running up to us like we were her long lost friends!

She was certainly not hungry and her coat was freshly groomed.

I asked her if she lived near by. She wouldn’t say but her tags confirmed that.

I figured she sneaks out after her mom goes to work and she probably hurried back to be sitting on the porch when mom gets back.  Mable refused to agree or disagree with any of that.

To the right of the trail is the old coal mine entrance

The sign was right, the bridge was “out”.

The bold souls skootched across the fallen tree.

The timid souls (I was one of them) Skootched across this log.  Mable waded across. My camera was packed up just in case…

We didn’t go all the way to either falls. But there were some little falls here and there.

And rocks, lots of those.

When we got back to the parking lot Mable’s mom came to pick her up.

Mable’s mom said she has made so many friends through Mable. She told us Mable does this about once a week she is now 10 years old and rather lame so for the next 3 or so days she just sits on the couch. She got Mable as a rescue dog and Mable she hoped Mable would slow down and not go these long hikes but old age hasn’t seemed to stop her.

If Mable could talk she’d brag about her hard working, optimistic, positive, cancer surviving mom and the good life Mable and her mom have, the leather couch that is oh so comfortable after a crazy 5 mile hike just to walk down another glorious trail by some random hiker’s side, the good dog food that the neighbor dog loves too, and just being Mable’s favorite person in the whole world!

If you are lucky, you too may get to meet Mable somewhere out in the Laurel Snow area on a trail. If you do, just call her mom, the phone number is on Mable’s tags.

MaxP--22

Catching a sunrise up on Max Patch is totally worth getting up for!

Please excuse the wicked sigma lens flare of my “beater lens”.  I don’t think all newer sigma lenses have this kind of crazy flare, I think it’s just that this old lens has been through a lot.

I shot these next 8 photos intending to stitch them together as a panorama but I didn’t get to it, so use your imagination here ok?

There were only two other hearty souls up at the top for the sunrise.

Others may have thought about getting up for the sunrise but ended up just pulling the covers back over their heads and mumbling something about looking at the photos later.

No problem,  I got them for ya!

s stone door june visit--2

Stone Door is this big chunk of rock that kinda got separated from the rest of the rock and now is this sort of crack in the rock that you can climb down through. Why don’t I just show you the pictures? It’ll be easier than me trying to explain it.

I think it’s located in Grundy county TN. It’s up on the Cumberland Plateau and you have to drive up and up and up to get there.

The trail starts out paved

and is almost wide enough to drive on.

s stone door june visit-11296

A third of the way in it changes to dirt/sand, still a well maintained trail.

Then you’re walking along and can tell you’re almost to the view

s stone door june visit-11297

and there’s a crack in the rock and it’s separated right about where I’m standing! Except there’s this piece of rock I’m on that’s bridging across.

I went out on the edge to try to see but I didn’t want to get too close because it was waaaay down there.

Then, it just so happened that the bathrooms weren’t working at the main parking lot. So we had to use

the out houses in one of the camping areas. There weren’t that many spiders and it didn’t stink too badly.

The ranger said it’s super busy in the fall, the park, not the out house, so summer is a great time to visit.
