This is Harry, he used to look more like this.  He adopted us a few years ago. He was sorta friendly but sorta standoff-ish. He didn't really like to come in the house. He didn’t sit on laps and didn’t let people thump his belly and say “Kitty Witty” nope, he preferred to sleep under the sunflowers at the edge of the garden. But all in all he had a pretty good gig, he was king of the shed.

 

But that changed one cold january day.

 

A young male looking for friends showed up and everything changed!

 

 

Meet Kawi.  The friendly young guy who came to challenge Harry.

 

 

He climbs legs for an extra pat on the head you might’ve forgotten to give.

 

 

Harry had his honor and shed to defend. He was not impressed with a cat who kisses up to humans.

There were subsequent stand offs.

And numerous all out tumbling, fur flying, biting, scratching, gravel flinging cat fights over the issue.

 

 

Kawi likes to come in and say hello.  Kawi is a jolly good fellow, he’ll even stand on his back legs for a French fry. He even begged for dog biscuits with the dog.

 

 

Harry now is a one up ear and one down ear cat. He no longer challenges Kawi to a fight.

 

 

Instead he closes his eyes and mumbles a few lines from that Bobby Bare song

  You gotta speak loud when you challenge me son cause it's hard for me to hear
With this twisted neck and these migraine pains and this big ole cauliflower ear
And if it wasn't for this glass eye of mine why I'd she'd a happy tear
To think of all that you gonna get by bein' a winner
I got arthritic elbows boy I got dislocated knees
From pickin' fights with thunderstorms and chargin' into trees
And my nose been broke so often I might lose if I sneeze
And son you say you still wanna be a winner
Now you remind me a lotta my younger days with your knuckles a clenchin' white
But boy I'm gonna sit right here and sip this beer all night
And if there's somethin' that you gotta gain to prove by winnin' some silly fight
Well okay I quit I lose you're the winner

 

 

Kawi seems a little disappointed.

 

 

But there’s always next time, maybe tomorrow.

Tom Mooch always considered himself a bit of a ladies' man.

 

He has started to come calling.

 

He thought perhaps Miss Ding Dong Brown might be interested in being showed around by an older man. He really isn't turned off by extreme catty ditzyness.

On the other hand, he was also open to starting something with Loopy’s youngest daughter Spook. Word on the street is she’s paranoid about loosing her magic powers if anyone looks her directly in the eyes. He has had girlfriends who were a bit over the edge so he figured one more couldn’t be that bad,

Then there’s always the experienced great great grandmother Loopy. He had it all practiced out how he’d tell her he could handle older women.

He ran into a small problem though. Something just didn’t seem to be right and he just can’t put a paw on it. He was raised Catholic and has never heard of birth control. If they taught that in Tom Cat finishing school it must have been after he dropped out.

 

Every couple of days he stops by to see what the girls are having to eat.

 

Tom Mooch always eats whatever the host is serving.

 

He praises it lavishly.

 

And doesn't mind a little audience when he eats either.

 

Maybe, just maybe somebody’ll put in a good word for him with the ladies.

 

Over all he thinks Life is pretty good.

 

Pretty darn good.

 

Loopy is a big proponent of personal space, She really believes it’s a necessity.

She thinks intimate distance ranges from touching to about 18 inches  apart, and are reserved for children, as well as close family members and friends.
   personal distance begins about a six claw paw's length away; starting around 18 inches and ending about 4 feet away. This space is for conversations with friends, to chat with associates, and in group discussions.
   social distance ranges from 4 to 8 feet away from and is reserved for strangers, stray cats, and new acquaintances.
 

Kitty doesn’t disagree with any of this. 

 

She just can’t understand why these rules don’t go both ways.

 

“Now You’re in my personal space. Move!”

 

 

“No. I was here first. What about MY personal space?”

 

“You don’t have any. I play by my own rules. So get used to it”

 

“I’m not moving”

“Whatever, I was just going to look at something else anyway so stop that squeaky growling, it’s annoying.”

 

Sigh, sometimes ya just gotta sit down for what you believe.
