I got to visit the farm that is pictured on the extra sharp Cabot cheddar cheese.

I had my own tour guide.

First  we met the farm dog, um, actually I can’t remember his name.

sharp cheddar farm-9744

We stopped in at the barn.

Met the calves.

They were in the middle of dinner.

Then we headed out across the corn fields

And down the hill.

And back up the hill.

And then to the top of the hill.

Ahh.

fall---2a

It was very dark by the time we stumbled out of the water and through the woods. We’d covered a lot of ground and hopefully got a few good photos while we were at it. It was another good day.

fall--10

The biggest part of that trip was the new photographer I took with me on her first taste of a being photo junkie.
To me it was just a trip for fall foliage photos and seeing beautiful pictures in ordinary surroundings, for her it was so much more. It was a major event in her life. She said her last good bye to a not so respectable boyfriend the night before because she had something huge and great and worthwhile to do the next day (our little trip with cameras) that made her feel like she had a purpose in life and didn't really need an un-jobbing wannabe future baby daddy to feel socially accepted or complete.

When I dropped her off I shook my head at how different her "normal" is to mine. I had no idea my spending a day with her was one of the things I was meant to do that day.

I was a window to another world for her, and hopefully it will be the beginning of dreaming bigger dreams, working towards those dreams and seeing more beautiful in the ordinary.
I wished I could fix everything for her but I can't, I can only hope seeds were planted.

The first frost came Early this morning

and when it left, it took the flowers, basil and peppers with it.  Just before the thawing, melting and wilting happened  I got this photo.

Red foliage

We had some pretty nice foliage here and there.

Skyway-0393

Maple leaves are my personal favorite but I have noticed some other trees can be pretty spectacular too.

monday-2712

Yes, the maples snagged my attention again.

Indian boundary Lake in October looking toward the dam.

orange

I’m having fun playing with sun flare and this lens sure give me a lot it! I’m not sure if I really like it. I just saw some better looking sun flare in somebody's photo. I’ll have to keep trying.

It might not be orange but it was warm.

Skyway--5

The photographer amigos and I next headed down a one lane forest road into the steep valleys of North Carolina.

Skyway-0456

They didn’t get very far before somebody had to stop because they saw something.

Skyway_--6

They got out their gear

Skyway-2591

and set it up all over again.

Skyway-2592

They checked settings,

Skyway-2600

and changed lenses again.

hound dogs

These hounds were waiting  to get out and enjoy the day too.  I told them they were cute as I walked by but they just gave me that sad look.

Skyway--4

While others shot from the bridge I stumbled down the bank because I thought I saw a picture in the middle of the brook.

belltown-2628

Later in the day I was driving by a farm thinking there might be some good picture on this road.

belltown-2626-2

Chris was already there thinking the same thing.

belltown-2625

Chris is very focused about what he does. He does not partake in conversation while photographing.

I saw some of his work that evening. Wow. Maybe I should try not talking. On second thought Nah, ain’t  going to happen.

Then we all met back at the house and learned a few things about editing before dinner. I’m sure some things went right over my head but I still picked up a few useful pieces.

Brenda found these reflections and water patterns in the river. I like them, nice job.

dinner

Paul made an outstanding sweet potato soup.

I didn’t see him make it so I don’t know what all went into it but it sure was good.

I’m looking forward to seeing all of the amigos again next year.

P.S. As soon as I get Paul’s recipe I’ll have to make it again and share it with all of you.
