logger-4242

Every morning I hear the wah wah waah of the loggers and then after a while I hear the log truck shifting through the gears as he climbs the hill with his load of logs.

Every morning I say I have got to go down there to see what they’re doing, it sounds like so much fun.  I’ve been saying that for close to two months now.

I have a few other things on the to-do list but never mind about laundry and bathroom cleaning, that will always be there these guys will one day soon be helping someone else manage their timber and if I don’t go now I may be left wondering what might’ve been.

logger-4233

I had to get a look at this log loader, de-limber, cutter all in one thing. I don’t know what it’s properly called. I’m sorry, I do not know forestry equipment terminology so anyone who does please correct me!

logger-4238

He uses that grapple thing like an extension of his hand.

logger-4249

Just grabs a few trees, like a handful

logger-4250

and stuff them in and out of the de-limber. It has rolly things with teeth that take the branches right off.

logger-4252

See how sharp, sharp as in nice and clean  they look now?

logger-4253

To chop the tops he sets them on the de-limber thing to the exact length. Watch those arm things

logger-4254

they clamp down to hold the trees for cutting off the tops.

logger-4255

A closer look, on the right is the chainsaw like saw blade just waiting to be told to cut.

logger-4258

Then sawdust flies everywhere and he cuts the tops off.  All in a mater of minutes.

logger-4261

Then up the hill comes the skidder carrying more logs.

logger-4264

He circles by at just the right angle

logger-4265

to drop off the logs into the pile.

logger-4267

He circles around, he’s not done up here yet

logger-4270

he has to clean up the chopped tops.

logger-4272

He carries them off to where ever the tops go.

logger-4281

At this point the truck is loaded and ready to go.

logger-4282

I talked to the log loader operator for a minute, he said Grampa used to drive the truck and dad used to load the logs.

Now he loads the logs and Dad drives the truck.

I really enjoy meeting people like that.

I love seeing families having fun working together.

I’m glad I didn’t do those dishes!

PNpNS4-4

I thought it was just another ordinary day digging ordinary test holes.

PNp2NS-11

I soon found out otherwise.

Next door there was a kid about 11 plus minus, he wasn’t just an average kid home for some teacher in service day. Most kids would’ve watched and if they weren’t too shy they might say hi but not this guy, he was a Special Ops guy on the job.

PNpNS5-45

He came boldly close using the cover of a goldenrod bush. He was confident in his training that the wildly moving goldenrod would be assumed to be the wind’s doing. They’d never suspect a a Special Ops guy this close in. Plus in his camo pants and vest how could they ever spot him?

PNpNS5-43

He crouched in his goldenrod spot and pulled out his binoculars to get a better look at what exactly those people were digging. In his effort to obtain visual information he realized he’d nearly stood up, it wasn’t just the top of his head that was visible his shoulders too!

He crouched as low as he thought possible and waited what seemed like an eternity, maybe they’d stop looking over here. It’s really hard to just sit still.

Just when he’d wiggled into a good vantage point, a perfect place for the binoculars to peer out from and only a little bit of his head showing, his decoy man quit jumping on the trampoline and leaned over the fence AND STARTED TALKING to him!  As if he was just having a normal backyard conversation with his brother or something!

He grit his teeth and refrained from saying

Hello? Can’t you see I’m achieving an objective where a conventional force requirement does not exist or might affect the overall strategic outcome?  Anyway I’m wearing camo so you’re not supposed to see me.

He knew Special ops are carried out with limited numbers of highly trained personnel that are able to operate in all environments, utilize self-reliance, are able to easily adapt and overcome obstacles, and use unconventional combat skills and equipment to complete objectives.

So with his cover blown he knew it was time to use his training and skill to temporarily retreat to a better position.

PNp2NS-14

He began with the low crawl but promptly abandoned it for the conventional crawl.

PNp2NS-15

Then broke into an all out run for the backyard fence!

PNp2NS-16

As he cleared the top of the fence he gave one backward look to see if he’d retreated prematurely. Maybe they’d never noticed him after all.

About 7:30 am the sun peeks around the mountain

PNpRS2-2

and today I am moving mud. Yeah mud. I know it’s not a good word to describe the exact type of soil.

PNpRS2-11

Well it looked like this.

It’s that sticky brown blue river bottom stuff. Yes that stuff that sticks in the truck.

PNpRS2-5

Across the site, I look in the mirror to see it come out  It does a little but the pile on the ground just isn’t big enough so I’ve got to get out and take a look.

PNp2RS-10

Just as I get back there I hear a really slow Whoosh! And a bunch oozes out. I figure I'll wait a bit in case the last wants to come out anytime soon.

PNpRS2-16

That’s when I saw Bubba watching me.

Uh, nice doggie, nice doggie, I hope we can be friends. I forgot my wallet, I mean my dog biscuits.

PNpRS2-17

Turned out I had nothing to worry about, Bubba was a nice dog or just had a short attention span and got bored with me.

PNpRS2-19

Then remembered he had something to scratch or lick.

PNpRS2-36

PNpRS2-31

If there’s one thing to know about a construction site, it’s this right here, yes, the orange marker with the pink ribbon tied onto it.

If you value your life you leave this alone. You don’t bulldoze it over, you don’t bury it with dirt and you Don’t absent mindedly kick it over while walking by. There’s no knowing what the grademan will do to you when he comes storming out from behind his transit.

That’s all for now, I have to go wash the truck out,

PN
